there is also very little understanding out there that many new drugs fail. By that, I mean that even if they make it through the safety testing and are generally released, they never get traction in the market. Drugs need high profit margins for the drug makers to continue the R&D.

I know, I know, I just said the same thing you did.

Socialized medicine for all!!! woohoo!!!

Her response was to rant about drug industry "profits", and would not listen to the point that drug industry return on equity is not substantially higher than returns in many other industries -- and if you make it much lower than other industries, investment dollars will not flow into drug-making at all.

does your friend think we should have gov't subsidized auto, home, or life insurance?

i contend the reason you hear people complaining about the "profits" of the drug industry...oh, make that "big pharma" companies, is that your friend has sipped the kool-aid of entitlement nirvana...

and jorj correctly points out that the huge disincentive for companies to manufacture the vaccines thanks to gov't 'discount' purchasing and malpractice suits has created the situation where we are now being rationed

i just don't know how you can breath through against the mindset that either an employer OR the federal government is responsible for health care...i think the indoctrination is complete
