True. My wife, who is from Germany, is totally aghast at the political situation in the US, especially around here. I see lots of encouraging signs of change, it is nothing like in the early 80's when liberal ideals were equated with communism.

Vietnam was the spark that led to the change. It is similar to our current situation in Iraq in that we weren't losing, but we weren't exactly winning either. If we have to pull out, that will trigger a round of soul-searching and attempts at trying to figure out how it went wrong. Under the circumstances, the whole conservative movement is vulnerable because they let themselves be dominated by the neocons.
