Someone posted earlier an essay explaining that people in politics don't usually apologize because public policy decisions always have up sides and down sides

There are big differences along the continuum that includes recognizing up and down sides, admitting mistakes, and apologizing. Conflating them is not helpful. I think that apologizing is stupid, too. And admitting mistakes is fraught with political peril. But the thoughtful acknowledgement of complexity and up and down sides (and it's cohort that includes complexity and nuance) is a very healthy thing. Watching a president eschew it is disconcerting.
