And self directed IRA's can lose a lot of money, as you well know.

Not if they invest in VCLK at $9.40 and OVTI at $14.60 today. They'll make millions!

And self directed IRA's can lose a lot of money, as you well know. There are many, many issues that need to be resolved, and if the program wasn't set up right, it could be a nightmare.

Well, I agree about that. Nothing compared with the nightmare we already have, but a nightmare nonetheless.

Remember, it's involuntary.

No, it isn't. Those who prefer not to invest in stocks would not be required to do so

When did "conservatives" get so casual about spending money that we don't have?.

The reality is that SS is broke. Today. Right now. Technically insolvent by any reasonable accounting measure.

The fate of the entire economy rests on this failed social program becoming workable going forward. It is clear the current arrangement is not capable of doing it.

We really don't have a choice in the matter. The only choice is whether we elect someone who will deal with the problem or someone who will kick the can.

The Left merely wants to use it as a political weapon.

and what do you think it means when benefits are getting reduced and the retirement age is going up?

In other words, the value of your SS benefits is collapsing

it usually a rule to spend less but there are exceptions....

Something along the lines of a self-directed IRA.

You can already get a self-directed IRA.

What seniors really need is something like a defined benefit pension. A real safety net.
