Bush did know, in so far as he is capable of "knowing" anything, that the justification offered for the war was a crock

I'd be interested in your theory as to why Bush lied about a matter that was certain to be exposed. Seldom if ever do we lie unless we feel we have a reasonable chance of getting away with it.

Your scenario is: (1) Bush knew there no WMDs. (2) Bush lied that there were WMDs as a pretext for war. (3) Bush won approval for war and sent troops to Iraq. (4) The troops found there were no WMDs, as Bush knew for certain they would not, thus exposing his lie.

I have serious trouble understanding the logic of this particular example of human behavior.

Can you help me with this? I need something more credible and thoughtful than "Bush is stupid" or the equivalent.
