Robert Novak also condemned Kerry's comment as gratuitous and "unpleasant." It's a wonder such rancid hypocrisy doesn't stain Novak's pearly dentures. Let's set the wayback machine to the January 5, 2002 broadcast of CNN's The Capital Gang. The guest: immunologist and co founder of the American Federation for AIDS Research Michael Gottlieb, interviewed by Al Hunt about worldwide efforts to stop the spread of AIDS. After the interview, the Gang kicked the subject around a bit, and Novak decided to enlighten us by offering a theological perspective. NOVAK: "You know, this the only disease that I know of where 100 percent of the--[he catches himself] not 100 percent of the cases, most of the cases are caused by bad behavior, either sexual promiscuity or drug use. You know, a lot of people in a different age might say that this was the wrath of God coming down on people, but I do know that there's more resources in this country on AIDS than on diseases that effect many more people than AIDS, such as cancer." MARGARET CARLSON: "Bob, would you say it's the wrath of God?" NOVAK: "I consider that a possibility."
