I'm not talking about who started the war, who escalated the war, or not.

If you persist in discussing other people's records and their motivations (you know what was going on in his head, do you? Amazing!) then all I can say is:

Of the four presidential and vice presidential candidates, three were old enough to have served in Vietnam.

Only one served in Vietnam.

The other two, Bush and Cheney, avoided going to Vietnam, yet they attack the one who did serve. Holes in Bush's records are suspicious enough, no need for Dan Rather to blather.

The one that that actually went, Kerry, came back with strong feelings - what a surprise. My grandfather and his father came back from Europe completely changed men too, I have learned. Correction, my step grandfather came back, my paternal grandfather did not and I of course never got to find out how he felt.

Maybe all of them should have dropped the issue at the onset of the campaign, but they didn't, so its an issue that probably need not have been.

I'd be happy if they talked more about the present and future, myself.
