Something Bush can be proud of ... for once.

Pakistan 15th most corrupt state [Coalition of the Willing Partner]

BERLIN: A global corruption index released by watchdog organisation Transparency International has ranked Pakistan along with Kenya and Iraq 129th in a perceived corruption index of 146 countries. The index highlights countries perceived by business leaders, academics and risk analysts to have the least and most corruption among public officials and politicians. The most corrupt receives the lowest scores while a possible perfect 10 is the least corrupt. afp

Damn. There I was ready to give kudos to Bush and I think I may have misinterpreted the AFP story.

“Corruption robs countries of their potential,” said Eigen. “As the Corruption Perceptions Index 2004 shows, oil-rich Angola, Azerbaijan, Chad, Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Libya, Nigeria, Russia, Sudan, Venezuela and Yemen all have extremely low scores. In these countries, public contracting in the oil sector is plagued by revenues vanishing into the pockets of western oil executives, middlemen and local officials.”

Maybe next year. Cross your fingers.
