All kidding aside, unfortunately, this time the stakes are high for both sides for different reasons, and that's where the polarization is coming from.

Both sides probably think the other is evil or naive or simplistic or worse.

But at least if they can be civil, that would be the first step to find a common ground and undertand each other's position better.
