W started the smear campaign business long before Kerry emerged, just ask John McCain. The LOL was, of course, a response to the previous message, not that it makes any difference. I live in a swing state, I've been watching W's ads more or less continuously since April or so. The figures I've seen are 75% negative, which fits well with the "dignified" posture of this administration. Of course, if I had to run on W's record, I might prefer to run a smear campaign too.
