Kenny Boy Lay has endorsed Bush.

I'm afraid Ken Lay has bigger fish to fry.

3 Former Enron Executives Will Share a Trial

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: October 20, 2004

HOUSTON, Oct. 19 (AP) - Kenneth Lay, a founder of the Enron Corporation, will get two criminal trials - one by himself and one with his former protégé, Jeffrey Skilling, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Judge Sim Lake of Federal District Court partly granted Mr. Lay's request to be tried separately from Mr. Skilling, a former chief executive, and a third defendant, Richard Causey, a former top Enron accountant.

The judge said Mr. Lay would be tried separately on four counts of bank fraud and making false statements, centering on allegations that he misled banks about using loans to buy Enron stock on margin.

But on seven pending counts of conspiracy and fraud, Mr. Lay will face a jury with Mr. Skilling and Mr. Causey, each of whom face more than 30 counts that include conspiracy, insider trading, fraud and lying to auditors.<?b>

All three have pleaded not guilty.

Judge Lake has yet to schedule the trials, but his rejection of Mr. Lay's request for a complete severance means that the Enron founder will not receive the single speedy trial he wanted.

Mr. Lay and Mr. Skilling both argued in court filings that the allegations against them overlapped thinly, if at all, so they should be tried separately. The government countered that an overall conspiracy ties them and Mr. Causey together.

John Kerry: In the Pocket of Enron & Halliburton

Seems that John Kerry made hefty profit off of corporate malfeasance:

"Personal financial disclosure forms filed with the Senate show that on December 11, 1995, the marital trust held by Kerry and his wife purchased Enron stock valued anywhere from $250,001 to $500,000. (The Senate requires only rough valuations for assets and liabilities.) The stock returned between $5,000 and $15,000 in dividends in 1996, and another $5,001 to $15,000 in 1997. Capital gains realized from the sale of Enron stock that year totaled anywhere from $15,001 to $50,000. All in all, the Kerrys made between $25,003 and $80,000 off their Enron buy.

Likewise, financial forms on file with the Senate show the Kerrys made money off of Halliburton. On May 13, 1996, the marital trust purchased between $250,001 and $500,000 of stock in the company. Just seven weeks later, the stock was sold. The trust reported earning $1,001 and $2,500 in dividends and $5,001 and $15,000 in capital gains. Add it up and the gains were anywhere from $6,002 to $17,500."

Of course, nowadays Kerry enjoys bashing Enron & Halliburton on the campaign trail--I guess he can AFFORD to now.

Flip flop flip flop ...
