Speaking at the Macao International Trade and Investment Forum opened on Thursday, Ludgero Marques, President of the Portuguese Business Association said Macao is an ideal gateway for enterprises from Portuguese-speaking countries to enter the southern China market, which is a destined step of globalization for the Portuguese-speaking countries.

"Macao has an important role to play in boosting the mutual understanding between the business circles in China and Portuguese-speaking countries by using its traditional pool of talents, who are familiar with Portuguese cultural, legal and economic systems," said Marques.

Wang Liaoping, Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (FETCCP), said Macao has become a demonstration site for products and investment opportunities in Portuguese-speaking countries.

In a breakthrough for this endeavor, all seven FETCCP members from Portuguese-speaking countries brought their home-made agricultural products, food and handicrafts to the Macao International Trade and Investment Fair opened here Thursday.

Wang said that over the past year, Beijing offered an advanced training course for senior managers from Portuguese-speaking countries. China also invited trade officials from the countries to the Eighth China International Fair for Investment and Trade held in Xiamen in September.

The implementation of the Mainland/Macao Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) and the regional cooperation in south China's Pan-Pearl River Delta Region have reinforced Macao'sadvantages in boosting the trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, said Wang. Enditem
