I read Big Lies too. It was illuminating. I would like to read Clarke's book.

David Brock was gay. He allowed himself to be seduced by his popularity as a writer by the American Spectator Magazine.
He had some problems I think with acknowledging and accepting his sexual proclivity and therefore was comfortable performing the fabrications he did for A.S..
As he became more comfortable with who he was he was able to tear himself away from the need to solicit acceptance by proselytizing himself.. That is why I believe him and do not feel he is lying in his book.
