Well lets just say.....unemployment benefits extensions.

Why do republicans as a rule vote against them????????????????

Because they are NOT liberal.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John Kerry jumped off the presidential campaign trail Tuesday so he could vote for a measure funding health care benefits for veterans -- only to watch Republican leaders postpone the vote.

There is bipartisan support for extending federal unemployment benefits. On February 26, the Senate voted 58-39 in support of extending federal benefits, and on February 4, the House voted 227 to 179 in support of extending benefits. However, because the Republican leadership in Congress opposes extending unemployment benefits, there is no help on the way to American workers.
President Bush has failed to support the extension of federal unemployment benefits.
The President should follow the example of his father, who initially resisted the extension of unemployment benefits, but wisely changed his mind and signed three extensions in 1991 and 1992. Notably, two of the three extensions signed by the first President Bush provided more benefits than the current Democratic proposal.
