If government money always comes with government controls, it is the churches that have to fear state domination. At least draw the correct implication.

There is nothing wrong with the current situation. The idea is, though, that existing community organizations, which includes churches, often do a better job at reaching out than a bureaucracy not integrated into the community.

The government has a right to fund soup kitchens, even if it doesn't have a right to fund religious programs. If the concern is with the displacement of funds, a wall could be set up to avoid commingling. It is really not so difficult.

I favor using churches for community service primarily because the black churches have been the back bone of the black community. They have also been involved in organizing civil rights activities, literacy campaigns, and voter registration drives, in years past. I think this is a good thing, because I am a conservative, and believe in the power of mediating institutions within communities, rather than depending on the government for everything.

I do not belong to a church or synagogue, I do not belong to a particular religious denomination, I am not even Christian or Jewish in affiliation. Whatever you have concocted about me in your mind is false. I do not even have a particular stake in this initiative, which is why I had to look up features of the program. If the Supreme Court were to disallow such programs, I would not be particularly upset, and if it allowed them, I would not especially celebrate.
