The 15.3 example I use would remain the same. As you pointed out it works out to be 7.65 per side(employee/er). Since I'm self employed I pay both ends so its no skin off my back. What is skin off my back is the fact that I could die when I'm 67 and not get anything nor would my son benefit in that scenario. Health care has gone up but its been going up steadily for 12+ years. Gas is a different issue - we've probably enjoyed low costs for too long in this country. $2-$2.50 is probably a reality we'll have to deal with. But this "blame bush" garbage is a crock. He's messed up some things and he's done well on some others....just like every other president. What I'm not willing to do is hand the keys over to Kerry so he can create some monster health plan that will turn out to be as bad as SS. At this point its not worth fighting over. I say we hold the election tomorrow and get it out of the way so we can move on.

<<Here's the future I envision under Bush, privatized pension plans run by his croneys whose only vested interests are their own.>>

Our senators already have that - they pay no SS. What a bunch of sh!tbags - all of them

Yes, I agree with you. I really think that most people would actually agree with the Democratic agenda if they knew what it was. Instead I think they hear it through the prism of Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilley and the likes. Most people are so busy working that they really have no idea what is really going on. Stupid things get blown out of proportion, like Theresa Kerry's comments about Laura Bush not working. I could care less. I raised 4 kids and didn't work most of the time when they were small but her comments don't effect me at all. Who cares? Every radio show and tv show I listened to yesterday talked about this issue. I have come to the conclusion that the reason those stories have legs (along with sex scandals) is simple--everyone has had sex, grabbled with issues of working and raising children etc. You don't even have to know anything or read or think and viola you can have an opinion.
I was a soccer mom last election but now my youngest is 18. Also have a 21,24 and 26 year old. Now what is important is the draft. Equally important is the barbaric idea that preemptive military action seems to be the preferred method of solving our nation's problems. We seemed to have become a blood-thirsty nation overnight. 911 didn't cause that. We can't lose what our country stands for and symbolizes to the world over one attack. It's all so disturbing that this blood-lust appeals to fundamentalist so-called "Christians." I don't mean to offend anyone but look at the "red" states. How can this president and his followers pretend to "respect life" and drop thousands of bombs on Iraqis? How can we respect a guppie-like embryo more than living breathing people?
