Hi David,
Over the years Brascan got their lowest returns from Noranda. The rest of their portfolio was on the average more profitable. Now, in the midst or maybe toward the end of a commodity boom they are happy to get out. Should we interfere with their freedom to do so? As you well know foreigners own all of the so called Canadian auto industry. An Austrian owns the largest car parts company. Once upon a time I owned an insignificant(jolly significant to me) part of the Japanese computer industry. The experience was fabulous. I like the international market place. Are you sure that Brascan isn't taking the Chinese government for a ride?
I don't see buying a company as an invasion. We won't be getting Communist judges in our courts etc. etc. Or Communist police. The one thing that we must be sure of is protection of the media; hence the strong opposition to US purchases of magazines etc.
Happy investing, Taikun-san
