I think your wrong about that. Guys in the pulpit have free speech rights too.

WRONG! That is exercise of freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Moral and ethical teachings of chueches are allowed to inform politics. Politics is not allowed to suppress religion or inhibit the practice of it or its preachings.

Here's the US federal code. I defy you to find anything in it that supports your position.
