"Re-engage in the peace process" is precisely what the Europeans, the Russians and the United Nations have been pressuring the United States to do for years.

This column is causing an ENORMOUS reaction in blogdom. I may be over-reacting, but if the Republicans can do a good job of getting Jews to read it, the result could change a lot of Jewish votes.

Krauthammer makes a point which to me has been singularly evident.

Why would an American Jew, presumably interested in Israel's continued vitality, ever think that Kerry will be Israel's friend?

I'm not Jewish so I don't know where a typical American Jew, if there is such a thing, places support of Israel in his or her hierarchy of political issues. I would presume, however, that such support falls within the top 5 or 6 matters on the list.

I should think that Kerry fails miserably on the point by any rational calculation.

Why, then, do so many American Jews support Kerry?
