Both European Jews and Israelis don't seriously advocate an Israeli bid to join the EU --if only because they know that if Israel ever joined the EU then it would be impossible to keep Turkey out... But, even more deterrent to Israel would be the EU Constitution and pledge to human rights: Israel couldn't proceed with its Arab/Palestinian minorities as a "civilized EU member"... Therefore the inconvenients (of joining the EU) outweigh the advantages as far as Israel is concerned: the Israeli PM/government would have to consult with its EU peers prior to any important decision... As for the economic incentive, Israel already enjoys a privileged trading partnership with the EU (its #1 market)... just like Switzerland, Israel doesn't need to join the EU... Most Israelis already enjoy a dual citizenship with a European country anyway. Gus
