What Bush and his administration members tell foreign leaders behind closed doors is designed to achieve a desired outcome.

For example, do you doubt that Bush put the fear of Allah into Musharaf behind doors?

This talk of striking Al Qaida and Saddam is no doubt the same as the catcher who wants to let the batter crowding the plate think the pitcher is prone to wild pitches.

Abbas is a potentially flexible new leader for the Palestinians. Would Bush open his heart to him and tell him the truth? Remember now, Bush is no JK and does not have the same friendly grouphug mentality towards new foreign leaders of people that are not your friends (yet).

According to [Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud] Abbas,... Bush said

Shucks, I did not know you are so well connected.

With sources like that, how could I ever have questioned anything you say?

Sounds like the 'ole' telephone game. I'd like to see the original quote, and have it translated by several experts in the language....See the differences and the similarities....to what you posted.
