That's what you think.

Though a cease fire was signed, it was not honoured fully on both sides. A lot of cat and mouse play occurred. Imagine: the last of the American forces were literally chased and forced out of Saigon by General Giap's crack troops. There was a mad rush and scramble to get the hell out of Saigon!!!

The carpet-bombing using B52s didn't force the North Vietnamese to come to the peace table. What the bombing did was defoliate large tracts of Vietnamese jungle and help save America's "face" in the eyes of the world. The bombing did not unnerve the Vietnamese because lots of them were well entrenched underground and in mountain caves which circumstance foiled US attempts to locate them by infra red and other devices.

By the way, did you know that a number of Vietnamese fighters were able to tunnel right under US encampments, surface and stab a number of soldiers to death. This was a mystery until the tunnels were discovered and then when the soldiers went into them, they found poisonous snakes and booby traps waiting for them. Did you know that Colin Powell was wounded by a Viet punji stick?

What forced the US to the peace talks in Paris was largely due to the massive protests in the US (not just Kerry's alone)against the war, the ever increasing debt and deficit which the financial experts found to be ruinous, and world opinion. If you care to read Paul Volcker's financial and economic analyses, you will see that the Vietnam War was financially ruinous. To this day, America hasn't recovered from that financial ruin.
