First, you mistake the principle of leading by your own example , with leading by attempting to force others to follow your example. You then reach yet further on your secondary premise that they can then lead others by example. Surely you can see that the reshaping power of success is in what others choose to emulate, not in what you attempt to force on others. Second, I am amazed that you would write, "The Iraqi insurgents are good only for long distance sniping and the ambush. The foreign jihadists, being volunteers along the lines of those in the Spanish Civil War, clearly fight better. But there is no real reason why - if the western world has the will - that the superiority evidenced over the past 400 years should not be demonstrated again. You should know that the Iraqis are not stupid. Real people who are unconcerned with such things as "will" and "man to man" kind of silliness understand that when it comes to living and dying, you do what works. Think about that. If you were an Iraqi (there's that thinking like the enemy thing) would you do a little mano-a-mano shit and get your ass killed or would you do a little "hide and ambush" and kill the other guy? And trust me, the Iraqi resistance can accomplish every one of their goals by using "hide and ambush" strategies. I say that because it is not 400 years ago. Gunpowder is now being used to launch deadly projectiles that can kill at over a half a mile away. Little bombs the size of your arm can kill a squad of men. It ain't your grandpa's war today. And no one has the will to fight a losing battle where the best you can do is suffer a cut at a time until you finally bleed to the point of exhaustion. Those are the realities of real wars, not philosophical wars of words. Ed
