Kerry made Vietnam front and center of his campaign. No one else.

Quit spinning.

"John Kerry, reporting for duty." Front and center. The bulk of his acceptance speech was an attempt to use his brief Vietnam experience to make him appear a strong would-be CiC.

As for "Kerry used his Vietnamese experience to highlight the fact that Bush did not only avoid seeing action in Vietnam but went AWOL for about a year", yes, Kerry WAS trying to contrast himself with his campaign's crafted version of Bush's service.

But that version of history - i.e. that Bush sought to avoid duty and went AWOL while Kerry patriotically volunteered to go to Vietnam - is a complete fiction.

Bush had AT LEAST as much chance of being sent over when he signed up to fly fighter jets as Kerry THOUGHT he had when he signed up for the Navy after his deferral request was denied.

And the AWOL charge is so thoroughly discredited I'm not even going to waste my time arguing with you about it. No one cares anyway, except hard core Bush-haters.
