If they falsely smear the candidate, they are clearly doing so with the intent to negatively impact his chance of succeeding at his career.

That meets the definition of slander and should be actionable.

I'm not saying they did that but if it can be proven they did, as you allege, then there should be a case for slander.

So, why isn't there. The parties are employing lawyers to hang around voting booths all over the country. Seems like there is not a lack of funds for it.
