I HAVE looked at the evidence myself, but given my "mindset", I didn't choose embellish it with bulls#!t as you have.

You said he was "AWOL", which means "absent without leave". He WAS given leave to go to Alabama and find a unit where he could attend drills. He did that. Furthermore, you said he was absent for a year. The span from his last training day in Texas and his first one in Alabama was approximately six months - April to October '72. And, in fact, he met ALL his service obligations for every year he was in the service, including 1972. There isn't even a hint of illegal behavior (going AWOL is a crime, you know) in his record, or disciplinary problems of any sort. His performance evaluations are all outstanding.
