rockets-

what i want to be able to do is
post to you a link to a favourite
opera section from donizetti's lucia di
lammermoor (or not <g>) the way you
post the mystery songs.

do you have the music piece or is it
on the web somewhere in an accessible digital format?

if it's on the web just post the URL.

if it's on a personal CD you'll need to...

1) rip it to a digital file, preferably in .mp3 format

2) ftp that .mp3 file to some web storage space
that you have access to. OR email the file to me.
(email is probably out because the .mp3 file is
probably too large to email.) OR burn it to a CD
and snail mail it.

3) if you do upload the file to some web storage
space then you would simply post the URL to the
file that you uploaded.

it's basically the same process as sharing pictures
except there are not many free web hosts that let
you upload and share auido files freely because
of the bandwidth required and the copyright issues.

streamload used to do this (with limits) but
they are not free anymore.

does your ISP provide you with free webspace?
most ISP's do. comcast provides me with 25 MB
of storage (no traffic or bandwidth usage restrictions).

the free webhosting site i found a couple weeks ago;

prohosting.com

gives you 50 MB of storage for free (with banner ads)
but it's a little tricky to set up your FTP
access for uploading files and then, as we discovered,
when someone tries to download an .mp3 file
it defaults to some code requiring them to play the file
with the quicktime player and doesn't let the
visitor actually save the file to their hard drive
directly.

it's all kind of a headache and it's partly why i don't
share a mystery song every night like i used to.

-tanks

Buy Dusty a drink on me. I'm headed off to get work, just so I can afford to do nice things like that.

Get to bed early tonight, Altie.
Beware of cops with beanbags. Beware of low flying cardinals with beanie babies. Visit the Shrine of da Babe. Give him what he wants.Tears, beers, babes, whatever. Go Sox. No pressure. Gephart won't win the election if St. Louis wins. No battah, no battah...Humm baby.

Better buy Claps a drink on me too.
