SP, Reagan shitched from being a democrat, decades before he ever thought of running for Governor. He was a staunch conservative, and republican, when he was the president of SAG, and in 1964 supported Barry Goldwater for POTUS. Many people, of all walks of life, considered themselves to be democrats because of FDR being president during WW2. In the late 50s, and from then on, the democrat became more liberal with every year, and the resurgence of the republican party began. Most Americans do not like liberalism, because it mimics socialism.
