Lie of the Day - October 23

Rhetoric: “We’ve asked our military to prepare for conflict in Iraq, if it proves necessary. We’re asking young Americans to serve in many places far from home and at great risk. We owe them every resource, every weapon, and every tool they need to fulfill their missions.” [Source: President Bush remarks after signing the Defense Appropriations Bills, 10/23/02]

Reality:
In addition to the fact that President Bush sent 44,000 Americans to war in Iraq without proper body armor, the Administration’s belief that we would be greeted by cheering crowds meant that only 1 in 8 Humvees originally sent to Iraq were sufficiently armored. [Source: Boston Globe, 12/18/03]
