Just look at the demographics within the military for your answer - where the troops come from, their average education level, family incomes - it tells a story.

It can be at once a positive and negative story. For some, the risk of being sent to action is a gamble they are willing to take in order to get a career, a way out. And for some, serving the nation is ice cream on the cake. For others... the career is a an economic gamble they have little alternative to take.

Of course all in the military regardless of what socio/economic background they hail from hope that their leaders won't send them into action recklessly or needlessly.

They've been gravely disappointed this time.
