This article is one of conjecture, if , or maybe. The suggestion he was "cornered" implies no means of escape, and, since he was not captured, he either wasn't there, or he was not cornered. One must use precise logic and word definition. If one knew the terrain at Tora Bora, as a well a known General recently suggested, 5 divisions could be dropped the area and they would not be able to see each other, therefore it would be impossible to "corner" someone and more troops would not have been of great help. During the original battle at Tora Bora every news outlet commented on how difficult it was, if not impossible, to trap Bin Laden in the mountains, as the caves and tunnels run into Pakistan where bin Laden is among friends and remnants of the Taliban in the NW Pakistan Territories, where even the government hesitates to enter. Maybe Mr. Kerry does not understand Pakistan, because of their political situation, did not and will not allow our troops into their country, therefore there was no possible way to "corner" bin Laden.. This indicates Kerry is completely unaware of foreign affairs, is a stupid man, or a liar. I choose all three. Which do you choose. You are allowed to chose more than one.
