Scott,

The equipment situation in Iraq is even more absurd than most Americans understand.

When the main battles were over and Bush declared "Mission Accomplished" in May, 2003, a lot of the military's modern equipment started flowing back to the U.S. while 40 year old National Guard equipment was being shipped over to Iraq.

Now I can understand that if you've just opened a new Northern Command and you don't want to meet any resistance on your next campaign in the homeland that you'd organize your equipment this way.

However, if you were the SecDef and you knew in your inner circle that Iraq would put up a determined resistance (as they surely must have), there is no way in the world you'd make the executive calls that were made.

There clearly may be a larger plan in place that the American people are simply unaware of.
