I don't know about democrats, but there is a class of do-gooder left-wing folks out there who think the ends justifies the means. They've proven that over and over again.

For myself, I'm very skeptical of public demonstrations of the sort that characterized the hippie era and persists to this day in liberal cities like Portland, OR where loonies demonstrate in Pioneer Square all the time. Oregon is also famous for a ballot initiative process that puts all kinds of issues in front of the electorate that they don't understand and can't possibly be knowledgeable enough to vote on. That makes the loony bin much more powerful, because they can shout down common sense and push their ideas on the rest of us.

Why do we need a legislature if anybody with a 37 cent stamp and enough shoe leather can con the uninformed into signing a petition? My answer is that we don't need the initiative process. It is only a slightly better behaved version of hippie-like demonstrations.

Yes, they think assault is OK as long as it's their cause and not somebody else's.

Men Nail Conservative Ann Coulter With Pies

POSTED: 6:44 am EDT October 22, 2004

TUCSON, Ariz. -- It appears they didn't like what conservative columnist Ann Coulter had to say.

SURVEY
Should these men have been arrested?
No, it was just pie.
Yes, they attacked her.

Two men ran on stage and threw custard pies at Coulter as she was giving a speech at the University of Arizona Thursday night. Coulter was hit in the shoulder. The men were arrested by university police.

In her half-hour speech, Coulter trashed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, liberals and Democrats, while praising conservative students who attended her speech.

Coulter writes a column for Universal Press Syndicate. Her appearance was sponsored by the UA College Republicans.
