But it is demonstrable that we are not purely motivated by cash, or we would not still be subsidizing the defense of Europe through NATO, or threatening to defend Taiwan if the PRC tries to invade. Are you saying that there is no monetary value at all to "US interests" overseas? Nadine's assertion was ludicrous, I merely suggested swapping US for France to demonstrate that to her. But I would agree with her, if she chose to frame the argument in such a way, that ALL countries with advanced economies are in no small way motivated by economic self-interest.
