It's always somebody else's fault, ain't it, Nadine? You make an unqualified assertion of "fact", it's shown to be bogus, and whose fault is it? Harold Raines, maybe, just to kick a dead horse?

Nadine - I didn't post the reality of the issue merely to score a point - my point is that too many people are accepting what is reported in the popular press as the gospel truth.

I'm not suggesting this of you, of course, but if you ask around your circle of friends I'm sure you will find a great many get their news in tiny sound bites - people are naturally attracted to remember things that support their current opinion of an issue.

Clearly the public never got enough real information to base a solid opinion on. So, they are either believers based on what they are told / grew up with / or are fearful of, or not.

Straight up: I supported the war in Iraq, originally. Even though I had reservations at the time about what we were told, I didn't dig very deep in 2002 and bought the party line - mostly because I felt Powell would not intentionally promote falsehoods.

I feel pretty stupid about giving my support without really looking hard at the issues then, given my natural tendency to be constructively skeptical.

I could just shrink from the debate and avoid admitting a mistake in judgement on my part, but that would be hiding from reality and I won't do that.
