You need to keep asking the question WHY if you want real answers.

For example, WHY did no one speak up at the time?

For one, the people that had access to these classified secrets were intelligence and Department of Energy experts currently working in the field and thus subject to secrecy laws.

The nuclear experts which came to the conclusion in August of 2001 that the tubes had *nothing to do with nuclear weapons capability* were threatened under national security laws. This is documented and has been reported in this forum.
