Hardcore the author of this E-mail I just opened is a highly decorated and retired SF Major living in Oregon.Yo Gang, Guess our ranting and raving made a major impact. I received a phone call at about 1615 hours this afternoon from a senior VP in charge of marketing and consumer relations at Burger King. He got my number by following records of phone calls and email trails. I am not sure if he has contacted anyone else. He was very sincere and took the time to explain the corporate position. Basically, Burger King withdrew their advertising from Sinclair only after Sinclair changed the regularly scheduled programming . The concern was that news programming would not reach the target audience at which their advertising is directed. He stressed that at the time, the program was not controversial and they had not really looked into its content. He also pointed out that Burger King has had contracts with the military for sometime , has outlets on military bases, and also spent more than a million bucks just recently in support of the troops in Iraq. I cannot verify this for sure, but I seem to have heard something about it. He was very sincere and apologetic. I pointed out to him that his corporation should have done their homework better, that they were the only ones (Major Corp) who knuckled under on this for whatever reason. I also told him about the 50 emails that I received from other Sinclair advertisers who did not knuckle under. In addition, I pointed out that a change like this should be sent to the field (grassroots franchise owners) and get feedback from the troops on the front line, before it is made. I then told him about the arrogant woman in their consumer relations and the way she answered calls from concerned vets. He said that he knows who she is and that she is history. I also told him that I would pass this on and try to insure that both sides are heard. Then I dropped a bombshell on him, by telling him the smartest move that Burger King could make to control the damage this has caused them would be to sponsor a complete showing of Stolen Honor with, of course, the disclaimer that they are not taking sides, but want to insure that first amendment rights are being upheld. I also told him that it would be a good way to point out the way they have recently supported the troops. He liked that and said he would follow up on it. Time to do this before the election??? Who knows. In any event, I have his name and personal phone number, he does not want the number splashed all over the internet for obvious reasons. I will keep the troops informed on this, input highly desired. Hardcore.
