All good points about Australia, and at this point, I am open to alternatives... It seems, (not evident as of yet to most people), but frankly, no one really is at the helm here at , the incredible collection of morons in power (from all sides) is truly impressive. I have no idea what the really smart class is saying about the clowns in power and clearly, they are not about to get in the fray as participants (and I do not blame them)... so as the ship is going under, it is everyone to himself I am a gypsy at heart, and I am not afraid to lift tent and see what the future brings, to me it would be another great adventure... I know, it is not the same the three musketeers as 25 years later... particularly the knees are not what they used to be... but so what... the young have have skill and daring, however, the old have tricks and know where to cheat -g Unfortunately, with the speeding laws of Australia, I KNOW for a fact I would lose my license within six months of arriving in Australia... As for the 'socializing of medicine taboo' I have personally have had it with insurance companies and their tricks to cheat,nickle and dime the population. I am sickened and tired of listening to Americans how ill they are and how many pills they think they NEED to get by every day... prior to living in the USA I only knew about one tenth of the diseases they feel they are under constant threat... this latest "scare" about the flu vaccine... oh boy... I wonder if people know what shit these vaccines contain... once i learned what it contains, I have absolute no need for it (which I have never had one anyway...) so I cannot lose what i never had in the first place... LOL! I cannot imagine how the hell they conquered the west... I mean the pioneers were really tough cookies, whereas present day people are a bunch of whiners, drug addicts, and depressed narcissists, who they believe their 'feelings' are being hurt every five minutes... oh and are governed by egomaniac wackos from the religious right who 'listen to imaginary friends' and go to war based on their "private conversations" with said imaginary friends LOL We shall see... it is not time yet... but soon...

Australia is the perfect size country to keep the big multinationals out. Capitalism and entrepreneurialism at its very best. Trouble is its almost impossible to get in unless you marry one of those things.

NZ may seem deader partly because it's a whole lot smaller, not to mention stuck not so far from Antarctica. I've had a lot of dealings with both countries, and I have family and friends in Wellington and Sydney. True, Australia is much bigger and more dynamic, but NZ has a lot going for it. For one thing, a very efficient government - zero corporate subsidies, zero trade subsidies, total transparency wrt international trade and taxation. Ranks right up there with Singapore on those charts. That has made its economy extremely competitive. For instance, in NZ (unlike in the EU or US!) there are no farming supports, which makes this sector one of the most efficient in the world. As for talent leaving NZ. Yes, true in the past, but in recent years the immigration pattern has reversed. Tech and media firms are starting up everywhere. The NZD is reflecting this new prosperity.
