a19: the Cardinals have been Foulked -- twice now...!! Boston wins the 2nd game, 6-2, and leads the series, 2-0...Schilling gets the win (he's a true warrior who is battle tested).

A 2-0 lead with Pedro Martinez on the mound in Game 3? That's pretty hot...you are right that "the Sox have a shot at taking it in 5."

btw, I did not write that Globe editorial BUT there are many diehard Cubs fans that love the underdog and we are for the Sox all the way this year.

Finally, It was great to see James Taylor sing before the game started last night -- he's one of my favorite musicians.

The similarities between Mark Lemke (of the Atlanta Braves in the '91 World Series) and Mark Bellhorn in '04 are striking: a mid-.200s-hitting second baseman who suddenly comes alive in the postseason and becomes an offensive hero...;-)

Here's an excerpt from an interview with Bellhorn:

boston.redsox.mlb.com

<<...Q: History is full of [unlikely] playoff and World Series heroes, like Mark Lemke and Gene Tenace and Tito Landrum. Did you ever envision yourself like that growing up, watching the series in the playoffs and putting yourself in a spot that you've been in tonight and up to the World Series?

BELLHORN: I think so. Every little boy always thinks of playing in the World Series, Game 7 and winning the game. I mean, I know I did, I guess, but it's not... I'm not here to try to be a hero. Just to here to try to win four games...>>

Lemke wasn't trying to be a hero either, but he hit so well in the '91 World Series that he almost certainly would have been voted the MVP if the Braves had won (they lost to the Twins in seven games). Barry Bonds, whose Pirates lost to Lemke's Braves in the NLCS, was quoted as saying: "Why did you have to bring up Lemke's name? Lemke was Babe Ruth..."
