I feel you are correct.
As a CDN, when I traded Nasdaq I was always delighted that the gains in the US stocks in US $ would be repatriated to me in our low CDN $ and I would gain on the coversion not only from the stock price appreciation but also the currency gain. If the CDN was even lower then, I believe I would have been even more delighted.
So, I have to conclude that a fluid reverse situation (panthornets) would be a similar double whammy gain to him. He would gain on the stock price and the subsequent conversion back to US $.
It is rather mental gymnastics to get ones mind around the concept especially thinking in reverse, as if I was a US investing into a CDN scenario.
