Producer prices in China gain on cost of materials

BEIJING China's producer prices rose 7.9 percent last month from a year earlier as the cost of crude oil, coal and steel products increased, according to Beijing-based Mainland Marketing Research, which compiles monthly figures for China's National Bureau of Statistics.

Prices in September were 1.1 percent higher than in August, the group said Saturday. The statistics bureau declined to give the figures directly. For the first nine months of this year, producer prices rose 5.5 percent from a year earlier.
