Hi Rich,

I think the stereotype is incorrect.

As a GM dealer I marvel at major citites where the Car is much more prominent than truck.

My market is in Texas and 85% of our sales are full size.

Just returned from New Mexico - ditto.

We Americans like full size in states that have huge expanses of land.

Ranches require big trucks - and those markets are huge full size markets.

Metro markets require cars and in those markets Japanese imports dominate.

We as a country have huge expanses of land with very low people per acre population densities.

The idea that Americans drive gas hogs is generally an incorrect phenom.

The sad truth is Toyota and Honda have handed the "BIG 3" their heads.

The "Big 3" have been whittled to a "BIG 2" with Daimler's purchase of Chrysler, and Toyota is right on the verge of exceeding Fords global production.

In MANY markets the U.S. is a very "small car" market:

Los Angeles,San Fransisco,Chicago,New York,Boston,the list is endless.
