That statement is unfounded. It’s easy to say, difficult to access. Just what would the Washington Post in their infinite 20/20 wisdom would have done differently? By any measure the initial assault was a huge success. This same newspaper (or was it the NY Times) predicted a disaster with hundreds of thousands killed.

We expected the Iraqi people to be happy to be liberated and they were. But there are enough goon squads and terrorists to make the average Iraqis life a living hell. What could a terrorist do with about a 1000 well placed and well equipped terrorists in the USA? I can tell you of thousands of targets that would destroy our economy and wreak havoc. THAT is exactly what these people are doing.

Also, the $225 Billion number is way overstated. Much of that money is returned to the government in the form of taxes. Soldiers pay taxes. They spend the money on various things which creates jobs. Making bullets requires companies and people who pay taxes.

That being said, we need to exit Iraq as soon as possible. That was the mistake we made in Viet Nam. No party wanted to be the party that lost Viet Nam. The same is true here. Both candidates offer the same story, stay and fight.

The problem is the longer we stay the more we look like "occupiers." That makes the Crusader label sound palatable to the average Muslim.

We need a sensible energy policy so we don't need the Middle East. THAT is the ultimate solution. WE could give it back to the camel spiders...
