Anyone else feel that there is another terror warning in the offing?

Terror warnings give Bush boost
From correspondents in Syracuse, New York
October 27, 2004
WHEN the US government issues a terrorism warning, the president's approval rating increases an average of nearly three points, a Cornell University sociologist said.

"The social theories predict it, and anecdotally we know it to be true. Now we have statistical science to confirm it," said Robb Willer, assistant director of Cornell's Sociology and Small Groups Laboratory.

On average, a terrorism warning prompted a 2.75 point increase in President George W. Bush's approval rating the following week, said Willer, who published his study in Current Research in Social Psychology, a peer-reviewed online journal.

Robert Greene, a professor of history and communication at Cazenovia College, said he did not doubt the correlation, but considered the small increase barely noteworthy.

"And I would think any benefit would be very temporary. Americans like crises to be solved," said Prof Greene.

That's ridiculous -- like saying we should not be allies with Germany because it bombed Pearl Harbor in 1945.

Oh, darn, it was Japan, not Germany that attacked us, wasn't it? Then why did we pre-emptively go to war with Germany? Germany didn't attack us.

If John Kerry had been in the Senate in 1941, he would have opposed going to war with Germany. If he'd run for President then, he would have denounced FDR for pre-emptively striking Germany.

So what if Hitler enslaved most of Western Europe and killed 6 million Jews? Why should we get involved? Right?
