Should Sinclair Management Be Liable to its Shareholders for Putting Politics Over Business?

It's a good question...

Surely we would not want to say that the management of a news organization should be held liable to shareholders under such circumstances. On the contrary, wouldn't we want to commend management for upholding journalistic standards rather than caving to the pressure of the market?

We wouldn't want to say that, but do the shareholders really care about jouralistic standards or do they really care about making money?

I have a period argument with a friend of mine over whether corporations have any social responsilities or is the only responsibility they have is to make money for the shareholders. He always argues the later. I have to acknowledge that there is no legal requirement that corporations act socially responsible.
