Mish, sorry, that is not what I mean. What I mean is in case Taiwan does not listen to the US any more (this is more and more likely to be the case), and push China to use force, then the US, by default, will be dragged in. In other words, Taiwan is a bargaining chip for the US only if it listens to what the US said.

The matter of the truth is, both US and China want to maintain the status quo on Taiwan issue but Taiwan. Yesterday, a major Taiwanese newspaper (Central Daily News) has already predicted that the US might have to exclude Taiwan on this issue, and today's Powell's words seem prove that.

Maybe you are partially right in Powell gave "green light" to China for what it wants, because all China wants now is to maintain status quo and the US stop selling weapons to Taiwan. And the US will keep selling weapons, I can guarantee you that<g>.
