Hi Neil,
Thanks for your thoughts. I have travelled extensively through Asia and the Middle East and I agree with you that Middle Easterners are very hospitable and quite nice. I also agree with you that there is "Jerry Springer" quality to the CNN and Fox reporting of ME news.

Mosques in ME are more than just a place of worship. They are also community centers, "coffee shops", and political centers all rolled into one. Not understanding the preachers leaves you out of a big chunk of the social views, regardless of your religion.

Most people everywhere want to just live a normal life. So if I came across as implying that they were all a bunch of terrorists, I apologize. That said, I think you will find most people there sympathetic to organizations like AQ or Hamas. A parallel can be drawn with Irish and the IRA. By and large most Irish wanted to live normal lives and had little to do with IRA. Many of them did not condone the terror campaigns of IRA. But ultimately they felt for IRA because they saw it as a force that was fighting to right the wrongs they perceived. Last I checked the relationships between Ireland and England were cordial and even cooperative after the British moved out. I expect about the same for the ME.

regards,
ST
