According to unclewest over on the Politics for Pros thread, Kerry will not release his military records for one important reason: In 1971 or 1972, Kerry was discharged from the Navy with a less than honorable discharge. Unclewest has done quite a bit of sleuthing on this subject and the evidence indicates that Kerry's discharge was not an "honorable" one. According to the evidence, Kerry personally lobbied the Carter Administration to conduct a review of the circumstances regarding is earlier discharge. This earlier discharge was changed to an "honorable" discharge as a part of a general "amnesty" granted by Carter to anti-Vietnam War individuals who either fled to Canada or engaged in other forms of protest against the war.

Of course, no proof is offered to the above. However, the evidence seems to be overwhelming.

Kerry could clear up the entire matter if he would authorize the release of his military records. But he continues to refuse to do so.
