Cut & Paste from your[Joe's] reply: (next 3 lines)

"privacy [be] balanced with [right] for [community] to know"
"impossible for management to monitor [posts]"
"up to [members] to alert others to possible scams"

Joe,

I'll suggest to BobZ and Matt, the owners of SI here,
that the above second and third lines are heart & soul
of what SI is meant to be, with addition of:

"... to possible investing opportunities."

For me the point here is Public postings between the membership
such that all members have the opportunity to obtain learning,
insight, etc etc by the flow of these Public postings.

Imagine if SI had no Private Message facility.

Everything is done via Public postings.

That would accomplish the essence of why SI was created.

Private Messages bring breath to a "secret" SI, just the opposite
of why SI was created, to allow everyone access to information
that until then was kept by a select few in a private communication,
or limited access to, environment.

As far as I'am concerned, except for those serious TOU violations
like death threats, all PMs happens "outside" of SI proper and it's TOU,
and should not be posted about on SI since it is not what SI "is."

As for PM death threats, don't tell SI Admin, but law enforcement.

Just to confuse and muddy my water, I regard any PM sent to me,
or I sent or reply to another, as a "public" post available to be copied
and pasted into a Public post. What regulates if I make a PM into
a public display is governed by my respect, or lack of, to the other person.

So I suggest this thread is on a topic "off" SI and only seems
to be attached to SI via a lacking SI purpose statement & it's TOU,
and should be removed.
