Michael I think it will probably change the way cameras are manufactured.

How and why?

I wrongly thought that it had a direct firewire and USB connection. I was thinking that a firewire connected camera and an iPod would be the bomb.

As it is it's pretty useless as a image storage device without those connections so I withdraw my opinion about it being a big success. I guess a few people will use it as an image storage device. Perhaps photographers out selling their wares.

Obviously connectivity is what it needs to be a complete success. It would have been far more usable if it had a smaller drive and USB or Firewire. I'm sure that Apple is getting tons of feedback about this. I expect that they will be trying like mad to add one of these connectivity devices.

One also wonders why Apple didn't get the feedback before it manufactured the device. Or perhaps they did and decided that they would sell enough to justify the development. But I can't see it adding much to their profits.

At $500 and $600 I can't see it being a big hit. It's sort of inbetween an ibook and an ipod with either probably being a better solution to most people. It's really sort of an unthoughout extension of an idea instead of a well thought out design.

I'll admit that I mis judged the original iPod though so don't listen to me.

My predictions

OSX right I predicted moderate success it's great under the hood but the interface wasn't great enough to matter. Slow but steady uptake by UNIX types.
iMac right I predicted big success
iMac flower petal right I predicted moderate success
iMac the new one too early I predict moderate success
Cube right I predicted low sales
G5s semi-right I predicted moderate to good sales and thought that buyers would hold back on first generation models due to being burned on first generation machines in the past.

iPod wrong I thought it wouldn't do well at all

iPod Photo I predict moderate sales
iPod U2 I predict moderate sales

Apple's stock prices: I'm almost always completely wrong on that. In fact you could bet on it.
